Vaulting Competitions & Demonstrations are open to all Vaulting Students.
Even a student that has just started, can do the demo's compulsories.

LOGISTICS
Fly into San Jose Airport (SJC) and rent a car for the 1
hour drive to the Fairgrounds.
Watsonville is located just south of Santa Cruz and is
within half an hour of Monterey Pebble Beach, Carmel,
Soquel, Aptos, Capitola and Salinas. San Jose is about
an hour, San Francisco is about 1-1/2 hours away.

Motel chains in and near by Watsonville include: Best
Western, Economy, Motel 6, National 9, Red Roof Inn
plus numerous independent motels. RV sites and camping
are available at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds
and at four state beaches and a couple of private
facilities.
CAMPING/RVS AT THE FAIRGROUNDS
RV electrical/water hook-up is $20.00 per night. Dumps
are available.
Tent camping $20 per night per group (1-3 tents
together, not at hook-up site but nearby).
Showers and real bathrooms on site.
AMENTIES - THINGS TO DO
There are lots of outdoor activities in the area from
kayaking in Elkhorn Slough
to whale watching to surfing to hiking at the wetlands
nature center.
Restaurants in the area range from the regular chains to
unique local favorites and upscale culinary delights.

If you would like to compete in Nationals you must:
tell Sarah you are interested, be able to mount consistently at a trot
and do all the compulsories competently at a trot by June 15, 2008.
Entries are Due June 15, 2008.

Demo General Information
Mandatory Dress Rehearsal is normally the Saturday
before the Demo at 10:30 am.
(If you can not come to the dress rehearsal please call Sarah 301-9272)
Demo Practices: As always, you can come to as many practices as you can
and their is no extra
charge. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm and
Saturdays at 10:30 am.

Tryouts for Kur routines will be
the week before the Demos.
Minimum qualifying standard for Kur:
1a. Kur (One Minute long with music) for barrel & horse
1b. Doubles (two minutes long with music)
2. No compulsory moves
3. Must be able to do your routine 3 times the same way
4. No repeating moves
5. Moves are neat not
rushed or sloppy
Music for Kur must be on CD format with no lyrics, please put your name
(first and last) on it, phone # and the name of the song you like. Music CD’s
will be returned the next week. Pleas ask for it.
If a vaulter does not want to participate on stage we still need them to
come & help.

Cost of Competitions per vaulter:
1. Horse fee (gas to haul horse/stabling fee)
2. Coach/Lounging Registration fee (around 15.00)
3. Class fee (around 10.00-20.00 per class)
4. Miscellaneous fees (Drug fee $17 per Horse & Registration fee per vaulter $10 + $2 Region 1 fee)
Note: Nationals classes and registrations are more
expensive.
Vaulter's Levels for Competitions:
1. Novice Modified Walk: Vaulter needing assistance
onto horse. Compulsories on the Horse and Barrel are only the Riding
Seat, Flag and Mill. No Freestyles. Spotters allowed, no deductions.
2. Novice Walk: Vaulter needing assistance onto the
horse. All 6 Compulsories Horse and Barrel, Barrel Freestyle only.
Spotters allowed, no deductions.
3. Novice Advance Walk: Vaulter needing assistance
onto the horse. All 6 Compulsories. Both Horse and Barrel Freestyles
allowed. Spotters allowed, deduction for assistance.
4. Novice Trot: Vaulter needing assistance onto the
horse. All 6 Compulsories are to be performed on the Horse and/or
Barrel. Spotters allowed, deduction for assistance
5. Preliminary Trot: A new or beginning Trot Vaulter
who may not hold a trot medal. Vaulters that score 0 to 5 points for
their moves.
6. Trot: A more advanced trot vaulter who may hold a
trot medal. Vaulters that score 5+ points for their moves.
7. Copper: New canter vaulters needing experience in
the canter level. May not hold a canter medal. No down and up.
8. Bronze: If a vaulter holds a Bronze Medal, he/she
must enter Bronze level or higher classes. Preformed at a canter.
9. Silver: If a vaulter holds a Silver medal, he/she
must enter Silver level or higher classes. Performed at a canter.
10. Gold: If a vaulter holds a Gold medal, he /she
must enter Gold level classes. Performed at a canter.
Classes:
1. COMPULSORIES: Horse or Barrel: Required exercises
for all vaulters, Novice Walk through Gold. Mount, Riding Seat, Flag,
Mill, Scissors, Stand, Full Flank, to be performed in a set manner. (The
Novice Modified Walk vaulters only perform the Riding Seat, Flag, and
Mill.)
2. FREESTYLE: Horse or Barrel: Free style routine
designed to show artistic abilities and originality.
3. INDIVIDUAL 2-PHASE: Compulsories performed on the
horse traveling to the right and Freestyle performed on the barrel.
4. PAIRS: Horse or Barrel: An event performed on the
barrel by 2 vaulters of any gender combination.
5. DOUBLES: An event performed on the barrel by 2
vaulters of any gender combination.
6. PAS DE DEUX : Horse or Barrel: A doubles event
performed by a male and female.
7. SPECIAL PAIRS: An event performed on the barrel by
2 vaulters, one Handicapped/Special Needs and one Non-Handicapped, any
level.
8. TEAM: 4 to 6 vaulters performing compulsories
and/or Freestyle.
9. TEAM 2-PHASE: 4 Vaulters performing the
compulsories on the horse traveling to the right and Freestyle performed
on the barrel.
10. GAMBLERS CHOICE: Vaulters from different clubs
working together in a Barrel Double Freestyle – Management will chose
the vaulting pairs. (This class is a great way to meet other vaulters.)
